Brazil is currently facing an unprecedented weather phenomenon: a relentless and record-breaking heatwave. With temperatures soaring to extreme levels, the entire nation is feeling the heat, and the situation is expected to persist in the coming days.

In a vast expanse, stretching from São Paulo to Amazonas, and from Paraná to Tocantins, no less than 15 states are grappling with scorching temperatures. The mercury is projected to climb above 40°C, setting historical records in some areas.


This weather anomaly can be attributed to a high-pressure system, commonly referred to as a "heat dome," that remains stationary over Brazil. This atmospheric phenomenon traps hot air underneath it, preventing the passage of cooling fronts and contributing to the buildup of heat.

Already, São Paulo has set a new annual temperature record, registering 33.9°C, with the potential for even higher readings in the days ahead. Other regions, such as Água Clara in Mato Grosso do Sul, have experienced extreme temperatures, with readings reaching a staggering 40.6°C.

While this heatwave continues, rainfall is expected to remain below average across most of Brazil. However, in Rio Grande do Sul, excess precipitation could lead to severe storms, compounding the weather challenges facing the nation.

The influence of El Niño and global climate change cannot be ignored in this scenario. These factors intensify the unpredictability and severity of weather events, underscoring the need for proactive climate action.
